Storytelling Art Show

On November 5th, 2010 The 100th Monkey Studio will host an art opening for the Storytelling art show. The event will be held from 6pm-9pm and is free and open to the public. Evan Churchill will perform live and refreshments will be provided. This event is for all ages. The show will hang in the studio from 11/5/10 to 11/28/10. This show explores the visual themes and methods of storytelling.

Storytelling will feature the work ...of Lindsay Jordan, a recent MFA graduate of San Francisco Art Institute. “Caught in a collision between child and adult, two reoccurring figures inhabit the most recent series of paintings. The wild hair and grasping hands give the pair an air of feral instinct, while their few worn garbs of tailored and modern design imply an origin somewhere within society. Bright enamel nail polish decorates a gnarled claw. Hard carnival candy litters a wounded beast. The unearthly nature of the watercolor on paper adds to the romantic posturing of the body and lends fragility to the figures’ state of mind. Performing the behavioral slips between animal and human, the figures are the quarry of a much larger and unseen hunter, finding themselves in a dialogue of misplacement and ethereal existence.”

Other artists include, Jayne Chandler, Jamol Decair, Susan Freedman, Julia Henning, London A. Lunoux, Chris Palmer and Donald Skinner showcasing a variety of mediums.

Striving to create connections within our community, the 100th Monkey Studio offers a creative place to visit, view art and/or locate personal resources. The studio founders believe in providing any artist willing with the tools and knowledge to use them, but also the support and freedom to express individuality and vision.
